I feel well qualified to write an article for Vikram Solanki's benefit brochure because we have known one another for a very long time and first went on tour together at England Under 18 level.

The first occasion I saw Vik play he was about 16 in a Sunday league game at Worcester. I was interested how this skinny young chap was going to shape up. It immediately became obvious that he had real talent.

I'm sure that Vikram knows how lucky he is to have played the bulk of his professional cricket at New Road. But if any of the present squad of Worcestershire players are at times jaded with life there, they only have to talk to the visiting side.

I am sure there will be plenty of people who will be praising Vikram's qualities in this brochure and I am happy to add my name to the list.

One captain stood out head and shoulders above the others in the Second Division last season.

Vik and I go back quite a long way. If my memory serves me correctly, I actually played against vik in my first ever second team game.

Well done mate on your Benefit year. I hope you have an enjoyable year and get plenty of support, which you so richly deserve.
